Capri-Sun Sunrise Review & Giveaway!
This Giveaway is now closed, and the winner has been announced.
This is a compensated review & giveaway from BlogHer and Capri-Sun
I’m a mom, a wife, a daughter, a business owner… I’m busy. So are you. Mornings are, well, difficult I suppose is the word.
Here’s what we do. I get up at 6am to be able to have my coffee and some morning quiet time. I am NOT a morning person. If I don’t have that hour or so before the rest of the house, I get very very grumpy. Then, around 7am I wake the kids up. They know the routine. Into the dining room for breakfast, brush teeth, wash face, feed and water the cats, get dressed, clean up rooms, and make their beds. Then they can do whatever they’d like before going to school. It’s taken a long time to come up with a routine. We’re still working out the kinks.
For example, if the laundry’s not put away – then where are the clothes? Homework didn’t get put away the night before – where’s that? Where’s the lunchbox so it can be packed? Not to mention if, God forbid, one of the kids gets up on the wrong side of the bed.
But the kids always eat breakfast – and that’s where this review and giveaway come into play.
The good folks at BlogHer asked for a review and for me to giveaway money. How could I refuse that?!
So… Per my regular review format, here we go…
EQUATION: I received the new product from Capri-Sun in three varieties to try – well, for my kids to try. They tried the Orange Wake Up and Berry Tangerine Morning.
Capri Sun Sunrise ~ Making Every Day Better
Capri Sun Sunrise is the new, wholesome morning drink for kids chock full of Vitamin C and calcium.
- A good source of calcium
- 100% Daily Value Vitamin C
- The pouch kids love
It comes in three flavors: Orange Wake Up, Tropical Morning, Berry Tangerine Morning
PLUS: Well – aside from all the vitamins and all that good for you stuff… My kids LOVED it. I tried to get descriptions from them other than “good” but all I got out of them is, “It’s very Orangy!” They’re only 6 & 9 so I’ll give them some slack. But I suppose the biggest praise of all was, “Can we please please please have it in snack tomorrow?”
MINUS: We’ve been using the Capri-Sun products for a long time, and I really trust the brand. But, it’s still a packaged juice, as opposed to completely fresh do-it-yourself. But since I’ve never made juice in my life, that’s not a big minus for me. Although I suppose it should be? But it is 100% juice, and they have Green initiative that you can find out more about at their website.

My kids are 4 and 2, and right now there is no school involved, just daycare. But my husband and I both work outside the home, so we do need to get our butts in gear in the morning. We all eat breakfast together, then while my husband gets showered and dressed, I dress the children and brush their teeth. Husband takes them off to daycare, leaving me alone in the house (ahhh) with my coffee and silence, to shower and get ready and gather my wits before starting the day. So, my tip is: tag team it.

The biggest issue I have in the morning is time!!! There is never enough of it and it seems no one is ever ready on time! Taking too long to actually get out of bed and taking too much time in the bathroom leads to running late! If only we had time machines in the morning!
April 30th, 2009 at 7:51 am
My daughter is a grumpy morning person. So we get most things ready the night before. Clothes laid out, homework put back in the bookbag, lunches made. It makes mornings much easier to deal with!

I just blogged about this Tuesday! My son and I aren’t morning people. He knows the routine, but compliance is another matter. He is slow as molasses and it makes both of late. the consequences don’t seem to matter to him. He hates brushing his teeth so going to school with a dirty mouth is no big deal. I had to threaten him this morning with a trip to the principal if I get another phone call asking why he’s been late so often. This is definitely an area I feel like I’m failing.

When my 2 grandkids first moved in I use to have a big problem with them fighting and arguing every morning. I am just not use to that and had to find a way to resolve that one big issue. My solution was now I get them up at different times. After my grandson gets dressed and eating his breakfast I get my granddaughter up to get ready. That has been a sanity saver for me. Now if I could find a way to get my grandson to brush his teeth longer than 3 seconds. I have to constantly send him back in the bathroom to try again.

The idea of your little product testers is beyond cute! My kids are surly man-teens. Morning are horrible, because if they could they would be nocturnal and just be going to bed at 6am. I wish high school ran from 4pm until 10pm. They could share space with the middle schools. It’s really brilliant. (Why don’t people ask me these things?)
April 30th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Biggest issue is, frankly, the waking up part. especially on cold winter days when the sun isn’t even up yet. Also there’s hardly enough time to for everyone to get ready, and breakfast is always rushed =(
April 30th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Biggest morning issue: I’m a stay-in-bed-as-long-as-I-can person. So I set my alarm 15 minutes early, and so far it’s worked pretty well. Plus I do most of the prep work–fill water bottles, fill snack containers, etc–the night before.
April 30th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
My daughter is only 2, so there is no rushing around yet. I get up for work, get ready, and am lucky if she is awake by the time I leave. She still drinks a bottle in the morning, so that’s about all I have to do even if she is awake-make her bottle. Now, when she gets older, I’m sure it will be a different story, but my husband is a realtor & is always home with her in the mornings-so I consider myself very lucky! thanks!

My daughter is five and takes forever to get ready for school. She can wake up extra early, be dressed, have her stuff waiting by the door and still manage to be hanging by the door wailing because she didn’t have time to finish her breakfast. I don’t think she feels like it’s morning unless I’m hollering at her to get a move on…
April 30th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
I’m with you-I must have my coffee before the kids get up, so I’m up at 6. I give my kids a 10 minute call around 6:20, then up at 6:30. Breakfast first-high protein helps them stay focused at school so that means I frequently have to cook eggs. Then dressed, teeth, hair, and out the door by 7:35 or so. I definitely make sure the backpacks are packed the afternoon before when they are done with homework-huge help!! I like to walk them to school when the weather is nice so I get my exercise in also.
Thanks for this great opportunity!

My morning dilemma is that I have several siblings and if we all get up at the same time, we each need to go to the restroom. Well, so we fixed that by one getting up at six, the other at this time, the other at this time, and so on.
May 1st, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Our morning routine is really just wake up, turn on the news for some national news and weather, look outside to see how nice the day is, sigh and wish we didn’t have to go to work, jump in the shower (two full baths make it much easier than it used to be with only one), get dressed, make lunch and get out the door.
Thanks!

Hey… Tips for a good morning:
Great breakfast: Yogurt on half the plate, applesauce on the other half. It’s a child’s favorite!
Play a game while eating breakfast, keeps the kids not thinking so much about eating.

I have trouble getting out of bed. My 3 year old gets up and tries to wake me up and she’s always so cheery and loud which makes it even worse. I am not a morning person and probably never will be. Once I’m up for an hour and have some coffee in me, life is all good again.
May 1st, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Mornings…morning….ugh. Don’t remind me! I think the hardest thing for me is that my kids are not consistent. One day grumpy and dragging their feet, the next ready before I even wake up. Go figure. I am not a morning person but I always sing to my boys to wake them up. And tickle them too! It seems to get us all in a good mood anyway!

My main morning routine issue is that my 4 and 1 year old wake up before it is technically “morning”, by my definition. They wake up around 5am and are ready to go! One morning they somehow were able to get out in the driveway and ride their trikes. A neighbor noticed them, we were asleep because it was 4 am!
May 2nd, 2009 at 9:10 am
I’ve completely lost my morning routine in the past few months, and I’m finding it harder to start the day as a result. I need some quiet time over breakfast, maybe with the radio on. I find I also need some transition time once I get to work, and it’s really hard to explain to people that, at 8 am, I can’t handle their problems yet. Usually a cup of tea and some quiet conversation in the office kitchen helps this, but losing that in the mornings can make the whole day rough.

Morning issues? What’s NOT an issue in the morning around here? I’m responsible for getting seven other people up, dressed, fed and out the door. It’s an insanely crazy hustle here, every morning and every day. Thanks so much for the opportunity!

Give a positive incentive for every week that the kids are up and prepared on time… like a trip to the movies!
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:52 am
My grand daughters are 8 and 12…and they have to be the slowest eaters on this green earth! One thing that helps is that I bake 24 healthy muffins at a time and freeze them up. Then I can take out 4 in the evening and just pop them into the microwave in the morning. Those along with a juice drink and we are ready to hit the road!
Here’s one we like:
Apple Cinnamon Yogurt Muffins
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 cups sugar
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine
1 cup grated Braeburn or Golden Delicious apple
1 container (8-ounce) low fat vanilla yogurt
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Method:
Heat oven to 350º F. Grease 24 3-inch muffin pan cups or line with paper liners. In large bowl, combine flour, 1 cup sugar, the baking powder, salt, orange zest, and nutmeg. With pastry blender or fork, cut in 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter until mixture is crumbly.
In medium bowl combine apple, yogurt, and eggs; add to flour mixture, stirring until just combined. Spoon batter into prepared miffin cups and bake 20 to 25 minutes or until centers spring back when gently pressed.
Cool muffins in pan 5 minutes; remove from pan and cool until able to handle. Meanwhile, melt remaining 1/2 stick butter. In small bowl, combine remaining 3/4 cup sugar and the cinnamon. To serve. brush tops of muffins with butter and roll top in cinnamon-sugar mixture.

My biggest morning routine issue is struggling to get out of bed – which is so, so much worse when it is cold and rainy. I can get out of the house pretty quickly if I need to, but actually getting up can be tough. If the dog insists on getting up then it’s a bit easier. I’d love to take the time to have a morning routine, but I just get out as fast as I can and grab a coffee and breakfast bar to go!

I make sure the kids get to bed around the same time every night and get them up at the same time every morning…routine is important. I set up outfits on hangers for them for the week and they pick what they want each day. Shoes and bookbags are lined up at the door each night before so we aren’t looking for those. I always have lots of quick breakfast foods in the pantry…puddings, cereal bars, juices, fruit, granola bites, cereal baggies….they can also get breakfast at school. I walk out to the bus with them and we talk about the day…I always make sure to tell them I love them and wish them a great day. A positive morning helps for a positive day. Thanks!

My daughter is two and acts like a college kid. She stays up late and wants to sleep in. I know, put her to bed, yeah, she won’t. But, she’ll be really prepared for college!
May 6th, 2009 at 8:17 am
My preschool aged son usually wakes up the same time every day and I am lucky because he is a morning person and in a good mood! He wakes up and always says, “good morning, good morning!”. But he is a major procrastinator with getting dressed, he wants to watch tv and get on the computer and play video games. So I am constantly nagging and reminding him that we are leaving in 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, etc. I set a timer now on the microwave and that reminder seems to help. Also, I have his bookbag all set the night before and I always put it in my car first thing that morning so I don’t forget it.

My children are now grown, but what helped me most when I was raising my children was that I got up an hour before the rest of my family. I had a peaceful breakfast, packed lunches, and made breakfast for the rest of the family. While they ate, I got dressed for work. Our sons were very good about getting up and dressed in the mornings….we all had early bedtimes.
May 6th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
I prepare everything the night before and the mornings usually run smooth. The worst problem is when you are on your way to drop them off and they suddenly forget something important back at home. Argg!
May 7th, 2009 at 6:35 am
School starts for all 4 at 7am so we are up at 5 at the latest. Preparing everything the night before always helps to stay out of time crunches in the morning.
May 7th, 2009 at 8:59 am
My biggest problem in the morning is my lack of sleep. It seems like even if I try to go to bed early something always happens to make it impossible to get 6 hours of sleep. I get everything ready the night before so it makes it easier in the morning.
May 8th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Goodness, mornings are hard for me. I feel like I move at 1/4 speed. I try to get things done as fast as I can, saving breakfast for work and grabbing some coffee, and in summer sometimes letting my hair air dry in the car and then pinning it up!
May 8th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Thanks so much for the opportunity! For my family mornings were always very chaotic until I decided to get as much as I could ready the night before. Now we have lunches, clothes, and breakfast ready for us when we wake up!
May 8th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
I guess as long as we keep to the routine, we do OK in the morning, but we’re not in school yet, so that will change. I also try to have things done the night before if we have to be somewhere on time.
May 8th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
We have a problem of getting everyone together for breakfast. We homeschool so dad is the only one who usually HAS to leave by a certain time. I guess I just need to set a breakfast time and start enforcing it.
May 9th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
My routine is to get breakfast and lunch for the next day ready and packed the night before. I am not a morning person, so this makes things a lot easier to just grab and go.
May 11th, 2009 at 3:48 am
I get up 30 minutes earlier and start breakdfast. The coffee is ready – set on timer the night prior and lunch packed night prior. I hate mornings! I serve breakfast in bed with a cheery good morning and the TV on to get the day started good. After eating I get the lunch out of the frig and get the dishes ready to be put in the dishwasher during shower and dress time with clothes laid out the night prior.

My morning starts no later than 6:30 am. I have to get up = -) I must take a shower, get dressed and start my day off first and foremost with the animals. I feed a sleuh of cats dogs rabbits and slop the hog (well potbellied pig) come inside and start with the inside animals feeding them, changing litters and letting them all have turns out to run. (do not get along) then its on to my family-get them up , showered , dressed and fed (believe me no one in this house will eat the same thing) some want waffles, some eggs and sausage, some oatmeal and toast, then it’s off to where-ever they are going..Now I make coffee and then it’s hubby’s turn, get him up again and again and again (he’s a snooze button hitter) make him breakfast so he can get hs shower, dress, and get off to work. Then if it’s not lunch time I can make my breakfast and have my coffee. Now it’s time to do the dishes , wipe things off and sweep the floor (where after all this ) is a mess waiting.
Part of my morning
Hugs

My issues are getting people awake enough to eat and get dressed. I know I won’t have much time so I get everything ready ahead of time. My morning routine tip is to put breakfast together, if you like things more complicated than toast, the night before. Mix the waffle batter/cut the fruit/whatever. Also set out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
May 17th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Ok, I admit it, Momma is a GRUMP in the morning, and that is why our house rule is MORNINGS ARE a NO SHENANIGAN ZONE!
So to make it run smoothly we prepare the night before.
Papers are signed, the coffee pot is set up, kids take shower the night before, clothes are picked out the night before and during the week it is COLD CEREAL! I’m a meanie! YUP!
Weekends are much more relaxed and we can enjoy the family! ahh
Great Giveaway!

I don’t have too many problems getting my family out of bed. I wake them up singing and leave the light on in their rooms until they walk out (usually doesn’t take long). I try to have breakfast ready and waiting for them when they wonder in. I also have their outfits ready and sitting out for them (get together while they are eating).
May 18th, 2009 at 5:44 am
I actually don’t have any struggles with getting little man to eat breakfast. The main problem is getting him to not eat everything! lol We alternate foods having oatmeal one morning, pancakes the next, cereal and fruit.
I do let little man help me with breakfast. If he helps, he’s more apt to eat it peacefully.
May 19th, 2009 at 8:16 am
My issue in the morning is always time. I seem to get myself ready in the morning, but then I always get behind when getting the little one ready. She always seems to find something to stall with!

My daughter is three and doesn’t go to school yet, so we have a pretty leisurely routine – I am so lucky.
We get up about eight and go down for breakfast. Most days we have cold cereal, but sometimes oatmeal or eggs.
Then we head back upstairs to get dressed for the day.
We love to sing Good Morning – the song from Singin’ in the Rain or Wake Up, Wake Up from Lazytown.

My morning routine starts about 45 minutes before my 5 school aged children awaken.I make my coffee,”find my groove” and set the dinette up for an-anything- goes breakfast, complete with glasses for milk/OJ and their flintstones vitamins marking the place settings. As a rule, clothing (including all underclothes) have been approved and laid out the night before. The lunches and backpacks, school supplies, and shoes have also been prepared the night before. Doing this really saves time in my house because once my kids are up, mornings are crazy! Something always goes awry!

Mornings are a mess for me. My hubby has to get up at 4:20 a.m., which means I have to get him up at 4:20 a.m. Once he’s up and moving I put together a quick breakfast smoothie, pack his lunch, then catch 30 minutes of snooze time before getting my daughter up for school early enough for her to mess with her hair for an hour before she goes. She also gets a smoothie for breakfast, then I catch another 30 minutes of sleep before I get up and go through my routine and make a smoothie to go before heading out the door. Why do we all do smoothies for breakfast you ask… here’s the answer:
I discovered that Capri Sun has enough sugar in it to prevent it from freezing into a solid, unbreakable block, so I just freeze the packets overnight. The next morning I simply smack a frozen package on the edge of the counter a couple times before cutting open the bottom of the packages and dumping it into the blender on top of a chopped up banana or half a cup of berries of some kind and one package of plain or light flavored yoghurt then hit the crush button. In less than 2 minutes I have healthy breakfast smoothie that For my daughter, I pour the smoothie into a plastic ziploc bag, insert a straw into it, and she drinks it at the bus stop then fold the straw in half and puts it in the ziploc bag before sealing it up. Breakfast is done, the trash is contained, and she’s ready for a full day of school.

I have an 8 year old girl and a 6 year old boy. Mornings used to be a nightmare at our house and then I learned the secret. I took a page of paper for each child and folded it into 6 squares. I asked each kid to write/draw 6 things (one in each square) that they should be doing in the morning before they come and bug me. Things such as make bed, get dressed, put pajamas away, brush teeth, make sure floor of room is clean, etc.) They got to choose them – and they actually did pretty well. Now I’m not the badguy. If they come out too early I just ask “Have you done everything on YOUR list already?” and they run back to do it. It’s been working for 6 months and we’ve even added night time routine papers as well. I put each page in a plastic sheet protector and tack it to the wall behind their doors so they can’t miss it. GOOD LUCK to you all!
May 29th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
We have actually worked through a lot of our problems but we’ve had lots of years to do it! It is still a struggle at times to find all the parts of things they need each day for school.

I am a mother of 6 children. I have a routine of taking my two older childre, my 16 year old and my 15 year old. I then take my 14 year old and my 12 year old. I then wake up my 3 year old and my 1 year old to go on my last trip around. I have been blessed that my kids are really good about helping and making their breakfast, but I recently received a coupon when I purchased my macaroni to get a free box of capri sun sunrise, my kids have always loved capri sun’s but this is our first time with the sunrise, they LOVED IT!! I usually use coupons on my grocery trips, having 6 kids has its financial hardships, but capri suns are always here less than $2.00 WHAT A GREAT DEAL!!!. thanks capri sun for a great new drink, my 3 year old loves it sooooo much.
Thank you,
Sandy Rose

With one teenage daughter and three sons between the ages of 9 months and 9 years, the weekday mornings are chaotic and rushed! So my best way to calm the morning craziness is to get done whatever I can the night before…this means having the kids pack their backpacks and put them in the van the night before, get their clothes picked out for the next day, make sure there shoes are in the shoe closet (we’ve had a lot of lost shoe mornings), make lunches the night before, and get anything they need me to sign signed the night before. Everyone except my 9 month old independently prepares themselves for school and we all meet in the garage at 7:15 a.m. I then have three drop offs (high school, elementary school, then day care) before work. On our way to the kid’s drop offs, we all discuss what we did a great job on that morning and what ideas we have to do better the next day. We have the same discussion about our day at school/work on the route home.

I love how organized you are in the morning for being such a busy mom. I work full time outside the home and also run my own Avon business. Thank goodness I only have one child and she is old enough to take care of herself now. We both are not morning people, so we enjoy having juice when we first get up. Then we can eat breakfast a little later. I haven’t tried the new Capri Sun yet but I will go get some to try for sure! Thanks for your helpful hints!

My almost 6 year old is the speedbump in our smooth mornings. Everyone else knows what to do and how and has the routine down pat but not him. He is never in any rush and we literally take turns getting dressed in his room (ie: hubby stands there and buttons his shirt and then I go in and put on my socks and shoes etc). No ammount of coaxing or threatening makes my slow poke move fast so we just work through it each day.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:48 pm
The hardest part of my morning routine is convincing people who stay up late that we need to wake up in the mornings and get things done. They don’t see the need to do that when we could easily do things at midnight instead! (The concept of “we need to go when stores and offices are open” escapes them sometimes.)
I have no idea how to encourage anyone to wake up, but I am about to move away from everyone I know, and I know already that I will miss the “can I have FIVE more minutes” that I now hear every morning.
June 8th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
One way to keep a family on track is by establishing a routine the night before. Have everything needed for the morning set out. Also, try to set a schedule for the morning. Plan what’s for breakfast, what time everyone needs to leave, etc.
June 9th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
I don’t have children so I routine is pretty basic. I get up at 6:45am, get dressed, I don’t wear like any make up, make my lunch, brush teeth and put curlers in my hair. I work in a Special Needs School so life is pretty hectic for 7 hrs!!
I’m kind of like a Mom!
I work with preschoolers & middle School kids also.

I usually wake up, wash my face, have a quick snack and head over to the gym. Once I come back from the gym, I usually have to make myself a lunch before I head off to work and school. I’m practically out all day until I return from work at 7pm.

My biggest morning routine problem is that my two oldest girls (6 and 4) go upstairs and start playing instead of going upstairs to get dressed and brush their teeth. And then I end up getting frustrated and we end up just barely not late.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
mine is not having a set time to get up. I need to get up at the same time every morning. (and not hit snooze too many times!)

I always snooze once, but then I’m up and out the door within 30 minutes. Time is my morning issue, not having enough of it.
My suggestion: Sleep as much as possible, and work quickly to get out the door

Even as an adult I like to pick out my outfit the night before an knw what I am having for breakfast. That way there is no wasting time.I also like to take a shower the night before instead of morning to save time as well.
June 12th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Mine are 1-1/2 and 5, so we’re just rushing to get them out the door to daycare so hubby and I can rush to sit in bad traffic for work. I tried feeding them breakfast, but it got too crazy, so I pay the extra $1/day for them to get breakfast at daycare (9 times out of 10 it’s healthier than what I would be trying to feed them anyways). This has saved me a few precious moments of time and prevented a few headaches.

My biggest issue in the morning is getting my teen son out of bed. He like to get up 10 before the bus comes to get dress, eat , and brush his teeth. On the other hand, my teen daughter gets up a half early each morning, ear & watch news, get dress, and brush her teeth. Lastly, on other mornings times can be a big issue with my teens.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:01 am
I pick out my outfit the morning before and shower at night, so that less to do in the morning…my advice…plan ahead so you aren’t rushing in the morning

I have a hard time getting out of bed every morning. no matter what time I get to sleep the night before, I’m just not a morning person. I struggle with getting up….period. However I make it easier by taking care of everything the night before, I get my lunch, my clothes, my snacks and any extra’s situated before I go to bed.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Very nice contest!! Thanks for the opportunity!
I like that you get up that extra hour and take time for YOU to keep your sanity lol
Well, i raised two brothers after my mom died, so I know all about morning routine lol
Our main plan was preparing the night before..of course having all papers signed, bookbags ready, and their outfits selected and ready to go!
I would always get up early(most days) and prepare breakfast. We would do make ahead breakfast casseroles sometimes too so it was much faster in the morning.

I hate mornings. Always have. I’m a busy mama of five so my routine is to get most everything set the night before to save some time in the morning. The kids hate getting up in the morning too. Gee, wonder where that came from? So each morning my struggle is getting myself out of bed and then my children out of bed. It does help to prepare the night before. I like smooth mornings
June 18th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
I keep my 2 year old on a schedule. Diaper change, breakfast, get dressed & ready to go. I let her watch Dora while I get myself ready.
June 21st, 2009 at 1:50 am
Mornings were fun as long as I had my coffee. Getting 4 ready was interesting and I look back now and wonder how we (I) did it! Prepare the night before, life will be so much nicer.
A fast breakfast of cereal, oatmeal, maybe fresh fruit.Me just give me coffee!!
Thanks
June 21st, 2009 at 1:58 am
I think taking baths the night before, having the clothes picked and ironed the night before, with bags by the door are the best way to get out on time! Like you, I also like making a quick breakfast and the Capri juice packs would def. help!
The one word to describe my ritual is organization, without it we would be late every day!
June 24th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Our morning routine issue is that I think my family needs to be better organized in preparation for the morning. It seems one of us is always almost late for work or running around trying to find something that we need. Because of this oftentimes we don’t even have breakfast.

I DON’T WANT TO WEAR THAT!
then what do you want to wear?
NOT THAT!
Okay, then you pick out something to wear.
I DON’T WANT TO GET DRESSED.
but you can’t go to the grocery store in your underwear.
I WANT TO WEAR A DRESS!
okay.
(puts on dress. i put on shorts.)
I WANT TO WEAR SHORTS!
but you’re wearing a dress.
YOU’RE WEARING SHORTS! I WANT TO WEAR SHORTS TOO!
then change into shorts.
I DON’T WANT TO WEAR SHORTS I’M WEARING MY DRESS.
Uh, my morning challenge? Getting a four year old dressed.

We are very short on time in the morning because I have to get my son to Chess Club or Track practice Monday through Friday before eight and get back and get my daughter to the bus stop. If it wasn’t for me precooking alot of food the weekend before we would be scrambling. I premake homemade sausage, waffles and pancakes and put theminto freezer containers. Then all I have to do is thaw in microwave and add a juice pounch and we are set. Yes, sometimes someone is in a bad mood but I just ignore it.

My husband likes to wake my up in the morning when he goes to work, but i sitll have an hour to sleep…needless to say i am grumpy in the morning. to prevent this, i give him a quick kiss and say i love you and he leaves faster so i can go back to bed…does that make me a bad wife? :-/

Don’t you just love mornings? The dog has to go out, 2 babies need their diapers changed, 2 school-agers are starving and running around packing their bookbags…how do I keep things organized? I don’t. I’m still learning, but one thing that really helps us, is packing lunches the night before. So as long as they remember to get them out of the fridge, we’re good to go!
June 29th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
I don’t have kids YET, but the issue I’ve always had and still have at times is just time. There never seems to be enough. Some mornings go more smoothly and that’s b/c I’m moving quick, but when you just want to go back to bed, it can be a bit tough!!!

I never leave myself enough time in the morning – im always rushing! I always lay my clothes out the night before and usually shower before bed to save time but i still feel rushed (i can hit snooze one more time right?) . Usually as im walking out the door one of the cats reminds me to clean the litter box. And then i notice the garbage full or a basket of clothes needs to be put away.

Plan the night before, or create a “menu” list on a clip board so the kids have a limited selection for breakfast. Have them pick before bedtime so you know what to fix and hit the ground running.

I work 2nd shift so most mornings it’s like zombie-land here when the alarm goes off. My daughter is almost impossible to get out of bed and get moving in the morning. You’ll usually hear “C’mon Danielle, get moving” at least 20 times. Last year, we were late to school so often she had to serve a Saturday detention. This year was much better, I started getting up 20 minutes earlier to leave enough lag-time in the morning. Even so, it’s hard for both of us to put a move on it in the morning.

My issue is that my boyfriend works overnight shift so that puts us on a weird schedule. I try to get onto his schedule but by the time he gets home in the morning I’m grumpy from being tired. Other than that we eat breakfast, maybe watch a little tv and then its off to bed until mid afternoon.

I have 4 kids, ages 3 to 15 who will all be in school this year so I have to be organized. My tips –
Do as much as possible the night before – baths, clothes ready, backpacks loaded with homework/gym stuff
Exact bedtimes per age and requiring my kids to get up when it is time in the morning is crucial. Taught them this from early age.
Keep shoes, coats, backpacks, school papers in organized ready location.
Eat breakfast after getting all the way ready so kids can relax a bit chat and watch for the bus.
Keep breakfast quick and healthy – instant oatmeal, toast, cereal with fruit or smoothies. Save the big pancakes and eggs breakfast for Saturday mornings.
Blessings

I have trouble with simply getting up!!! I often sleep through one alarm so I have to set a second back up alarm. One thing that helps me sleep a bit longer is that I cut up a batch of fruit the night before and throw it in the refrigerator, and the next morning I throw it in the blender along with some milk and yogurt and I have a very quick smoothie, so I don’t have to go through the breakfast routine. Thanks for the giveaway!

I have two sons and our biggest problem is them waking up grumpy and fighting with each other. I prepare their clothing, lunches, etc. the night before, to help make the mornings go more smoothly, but they still tend to mope and fight each morning.
What a wonderful prize. Thanks for this chance.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
My big problem in the morning is that I am not a morning person. I stay up way to late on the computer after the kids are in bed. In addition to that, my kids are not morning people either. It’s just me and them (7 yr old twins) and by the time I get up and ready and get them up and ready to go, we are all in a pretty bad mood. Mornings are not fun for us. BUT they are definitely better in the summer time. At least I don’t have to pack lunches and send them to school.

Gracie loves to pick out her own clothes but she has a hard time deciding. She’ll try on 10 outfits. We could spend the whole morning doing this. To help solve this problem. We pick out our clothes the night before and she’s not allowed to change her mind.

Well actually there isnt a routine anymore since youngest son just graduated in June , now Im the one in need of routine, now my sleep routine is out of whack , I get to sleep in late and stay up all night on the computer, the worst problem I have now is me and my youngest son Tyler fighting over my computer. LOL
July 7th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
My biggest issue getting my son (9) up in the morning is getting him out the door on time for school. We prep the day before. He wakes up on time but never wants to leave on time. I give a false time frame so he leaves on time.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
My daughter is now in college and frankly she had the greatest routine while in school. She loved her quiet time in the morning and by high school she got up early enough to enjoy a full breakfast and make it to the school bus stop with plenty of time to spare.
The problem I experience today is dealing with poor health issues which include fibromyalgia and mornings are tough. I awake to different levels of pain and upon opening my eyes I make an instant evaluation of how I feel and how the day will feel throughout. So after awakening I sit up and prepare to deal with the day. I then take a deep breath and go on with whatever life presents me.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
I don’t have any kids, so things are simple for me. After brushing my teeth and getting dressed, I usually go for a walk for about 30 minutes. I find exercising on an empty stomach works best for me. When I get back home, I check my e-mail and then eat a light breakfast, usually whole grain cereal with skim milk, OJ, and vitamins.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Our morning are lax over the summer. Whoever gets up first lets the dog out. I make coffee and a big breakfast. There’s not much of a routine until school gets back in.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:00 pm

July 7th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
morning routine tips? Have 10,8 and 2 yr. old and mornings are rough. Make lunches night before and have clothes out. I wake the older kids 45 min before we have to leave. My young one isn’t a morning person and doesn’t like to get up or eat or smile. (Which is me so mut be genetic)

July 7th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Our most difficult morning issue is definitely time! I am late to work everyday!!! LOL! I think they just assume that I’ll be late now. The best thing we have done is pick out clothes the night before…that eliminates the 6 am arguments about what to wear!
July 7th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
My biggest issues is just getting out of bed – I think my snooze button is off-color from being hit so many times. After that I am good to go, but the getting up part is rough.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
I prepare my things the night before. Mornings are a mad house and this really helps. I keep the breakfast things on the first shelf in the refrigerator such as creamer for the coffee and milk for the cereal. Saves time looking for things.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
We have a routine, but time seems to move so much quicker in the morning. We can’t seem to speed up, even when we wake up fifteen minutes earlier. it must be a time warp or something.
July 7th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
I work nights so the morning routine is get home, eat cereal as kids are getting ready, say bye to the kids and wife and go to bed. It’s my nightime routine with meals, school functions church and work that make my days get crazy.
July 7th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
My baby usually wakes up much earlier than I’d like so my routine usually consists of a diaper change, and bottle, and her favorite “Jack’s Big Music Show.” This gives me time to wash my face, brush my teeth, and get some caffeine to start the day. Lifesaver!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and morning is very difficult on even good days. It takes quite a while to unstiff each morning, and so I don’t get to sleep as late as I’d like.
July 7th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
It’s just me, so my routine’s pretty simple. Alarm rings at 5:15 and I get up right away. The coffeepot’s on a timer so I take my shower while it brews. I fix a cup to drink at home and fill my travel mug for work. Then I play solitaire on the computer while drying my hair and watching the news. I’m usually out the door at 6:15 and pick up a sausage biscuit on the way to work.
July 7th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
We have a 5 year old son. You would think he would put a kink in the morning routine. Nope. It’s me! My son and husband are morning people. I am a night person. After the two of them go to bed around 8pm, I get my “mommy” time. And I enjoy it so much I stay up way too late! I then have a hard time getting up in the mornings. I see the rest of the summer following this pattern, until my son starts kindergarten. I think I will be forced to readjust my schedule…whether I like it or not!
July 7th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Normally, mornings are pretty quiet around here. With no children in the house, it’s just take our morning pills (groan), grab a bite, and leave for work.. However, we are puppy-sitting for my daughter and that changes everything. Hello, dog. Yes, we are going out for our morning walk..hang on! Then, make sure she has fresh water and food, play Fetch in the backyard for a few minutes. It’s been a loooong time since we had a dog in the house. Strange, but it does shake us out of our routine. Now, when is the pet parent returnning???!!!
July 7th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
My biggest issue is that in the morning- and I have to be the one first out of the house to shower and go to work- is that one of our boys inevitably gets up and wants to take a shower at the same time and ask for things when I am trying to prepare for my day. Like where is My Blue Shirt and etc. You have heard those words.
July 7th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Part of my morning routine is to mentally get ready to start my day. I am battling MS and I have such a hard time getting out of the bed. I have to mentally tell myself..You CAN do this. I mentally walk myself through brushing teeth etc..and when I get that first cup of coffee ..it is such a delight because my husband has it already made and waiting for me.
July 7th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
I check my e-mails first thing, check the regular mail, eat, check out CNN and see if the whole thing has crashed while Ive been sleeping, then get ready for the day, Thank You!
July 7th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Slow-moving-spouse! He takes 30-minute showers on weekdays and has been known to fall asleep at any point of the morning. Sometimes, he is worse than kids!
July 7th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
My son and I both hate mornings. I can’t remember a time when I haven’t hit the snooze button on a day I have to take him to school. It’s then pedal to the metal to get him out the door on time. My husband on the other hand loves mornings and get him up in plenty of time to wake up and get ready. Sadly, my son likes mornings with the hubby better than me; he says mornings with me are too hectic…lol, I don’t blame him.

Boy do I have one grumpy/slow child she is soooo slow in doing anything in the morning that it is soo frustrating.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
I always got up an hour early just so I could be wide awake when it was time to get the kids up.They had breakfast waiting for them too when they finally got to the table after me threatening a few times.:0)
July 7th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
We always rush around. Our routine is chaotic.
I try to make it easier by laying everything out at night.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
No grumpy children or parents here — but we do have a very grumpy, demanding dog, who’s wake patterns, feeding, and walking take up most of the morning. Woof!
July 7th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
We keep a routine since we only have one bathroom. Hubby is up and out of house at 4 am, I wake up shortly thereafter. Showered and ready when I wake my older one up at 630, and I wake the little one up at 8. Now that summer is here it is easier, we dont have such a rush on things to get done. Thank you

Now that my kids are grown, my morning routine consists of me hitting the snooze button til I decide I really need to get up
July 7th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
I have morning time constraints because I car pool to work. I have to get ready, pack up my lunch and whatever else is needed, take care of the bird, and on my driving days, get the car out of the garage and ready to go so that I am on time every day.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I have to plan the night before, and go to bed early. I have a set schedule, that I follow daily. This makes the morning routine, much easier.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
Need my quiet time before the world gets going.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
My biggest problem in the morning is that everyone is trying to get ready at once. My 17 year old has to be out the door first at 7:15 for his summer job, so I tell hubby to let him in the bathroom first. The 11 year old gets up too early and he wants to have breakfast immediately.I tell him to wait til daddy’s out the door and I’ll cook him anything he wants. All through this mayhem I’m usually writing out the checks for some bills so my husband can mail them on the way to work. Then, on some days, my daughter drops off my 4 year old grandson on her way to work. Now the fun starts! He wants to watch his train dvds but my 11 year old wants to watch his show.Urggg!!!! I need another coffee. At least I have the summer off from my job, but this sure feels like work.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
My morning routine is pretty basic-I get up at 6:15, take a shower, roll my husband out of bed at 6:45, eat breakfast, and head out by 7:30.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
I drink coffee, get on the net and read the paper
July 7th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
My morning issues are getting the others to wake up! I’m the kind who sets the alarm and wakes up before it goes off. My teen daughter requires several warnings of the time. My husband will get up, go back to bed, get up again, go back to bed and such until it’s 8pm. Then he gets to work lateish and then works late to make up the time, missing dinner most days.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Get as much done the night before – clothes selected and laid out. IN the AM, be flexible but firm. If necessary, physically remove them from the bed and lead them to the restroom. Show them you mean business.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
I’m a grandmother so my mornings aren’t as crazy as when my kids were young. I get up at six, drink coffee and watch the news untill 7, then get dressed and go get my grandaughter’s 3 and 11 months. Come back home and feed them breakfast and have them untill around 5pm.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
NO grumpy kids to deal with. But I need some energetic music to get me going in the mornings
July 7th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Mornings are my least favorite time of day at my house. I also need a good hour of coffee and a magazine before i get my three daughters up. Depending on how crabby I am in the morning, I try to work out for at least 15 minutes before the kids get up. Once the girls are up I need to help the two little ones get dressed and setle any arguments about clothes. My girls are not morning people either so we usually have an entire houseful of crabby girls. I try to make sure they eat breakfast every day, but some days they take it in the car or get it at school or headstart. Once we get the dogs taken care of, feed the fish, find everyone’s shoes and settle any last minute arguments we are out the door!
July 7th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
I get every single thing done that I have to do, then I wake my daughter. She hates to get up, so I have to give my full attention to her.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
I try to stick to a routine, but often something comes up. The only constant of every day is that the cats get fed before I do anything else. Seriously I wouldn’t even consider not feeding them as the first thing I do each day because they would follow us around and we wouldn’t be able to get anything else done.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
My biggest morning routine issue. I’m supposed to take a pill 1/2 hour before I eat in the morning. But I like to eke out as much sleep time as I can. So I set my alarm early so I can take the pill and fall asleep again. Except sometimes in my sleepiness I forget and just roll back over. Then when I finally wake up enough to remember to take the pill, I running a half hour late!
July 7th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
My biggest morning routine issue is that I don’t have any firm time restrictions. So, I find myself frittering away too much time and not getting down to what I need to do right away. I am more on the ball when I MUST do a certain thing by a certain time or if I have to be somewhere at an appointed hour. It doesn’t help that I am not much of a morning person!

During school time our routine is like this..
Wake up @ 6:30, have breakfast and kids get dressed and around for school. Mom checks to make sure everybody is getting around. Do daughters hair, check on sons and hopefully they get out the door at 7:30.
Problem is.. sometimes they get lazy and time management goes out the window. I also keep same bedroom times, so that doesn’t mess with them.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
My morning routine is pretty relxed since I am a SAHM – and my daughter isn’t in school yet
The biggest challenge comes from me – I have a hard time with early mornings. Always have! So I tend to drag until about noon! A little caffeine helps me most days. My daughter is always happy in the AM so that helps a lot too!
July 7th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
I get up long before everyone else to make smoothies for breakfast. Nobody even knows that I add sprouts, zucchini, and kale them. They are just happy breakfast is ready and they taste good!
July 7th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Its up at 5AM to take out the dog, feed the stray cats, feed our cat, who is trying to trip me as I make coffee. Next, its time to water and weed the garden before my DD and grandson wake for the day.
July 7th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
I pack up the kids lunche and backpacks the night before and then I get early to have breakfast ready so they can eat as soon as they are dressed.
July 7th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
My morning routines are somewhat different then most. You see I work the Night shift at a hospital. My morning begins at 4:00 p.m. when I slap the alarm clock. My dog is usually on top of me, even though I have a queen size bed. I get up take a quick shower, I don’t have to compete for the bathroom
, throw on my scrubs and some mascara and start dinner. I spend an hour with my family eating and hanging out and then I am off to work! Thanks for this opportunity!
July 7th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
My husband works the afternoon shift so I work early. My morning routine is trying to get out of the house without waking anyone, although my 4 year old sometimes gets upset if she doesn’t see me in the morning. We also have a wipe off board that I write up every morning so I can remind my husband of everything they need for the day. It’s our way to double check each other.
July 7th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
I’m not a morning person. I usually wake up with pillow-crease face. I’m pretty slow, have my tea, check my email, then I’m off.
July 7th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Mornings aren’t too bad in our house. I get up at least 15 minutes early & start breakfast. Then I wake everyone up & we all start our day together at the kitchen table.
July 7th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
My morning problem (besides getting myself out of bed) is that I dont want anyone to talk to me or look at me for at least an hour after I get up. Add to that the fact that I cant stand to see or smell food for a couple of hours after I wake up and you have a real morning problem. Betcha cant tell I am sooooooooonot a morning person!!
July 7th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
The kids are gone now, but I still hate mornings. I tend to stay in bed too long and then have to rush, rush, rush. Think of things that I should do and either do them and make myself later or remember them when it’s too late to make a difference! Oh why don’t I just get out of bed?
July 7th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
My son is 11 months and has never slept well, so we wake up around 3am and then again at 8am. This is after I work until midnight and don’t get to sleep until around 2am. After we wake up we feed for a bit and then play for a couple hours. That scheduled is pretty much repeated throughout the day with naps interspersed. Not much of a challenge besides just staying awake at this point! Thanks! thebubbledies(at)gmail(dot)com
July 7th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
I have the hardest time just getting out of bed. Then I finally make myself get a shower. Then I lay back down for about ten minutes. Then I get dressed and eat cereal.
July 7th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
My kids are finally old enough to sleep in a bit when school is out. I can get ready for work while they’re still asleep! Juice bags are great for them because they can grab themselves a drink with out disturbing Dad too early. During school it is a different story, though (much more stressful!)
July 7th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
My son wakes me up early. I make him breakfast. then I take the dog out. I wake up my daughter she has breakfast. I clean up then it is time for school work for a hour then we normally right now go to the beach or the park
July 7th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
take the dogs for a long walk
July 7th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
I’m still a SAHM, and LO is just a few months old, so it’s a rare morning that we gave to get anywhere quickly. Usually I get up first, go through my email etc, have a cup of tea, then DD wakes up and has her “breakfast”, we do some mat time and sing a couple of songs, then it’s time for her first nap!
July 7th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
First- brush teeth,
second- make coffee
third- check email while waiting for coffee.
fourth-get coffee and watch news
and the rest we just wing it!
July 7th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Alarm, bathroom, cereal, brush teeth, dress, out the door. Lunches are prepared the night before.
July 7th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Morning routine, wake up, go pee, drink some soda, take vitamins and eat some form of food. Take a shower, go to the gym for 2 hours.
July 7th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
I have to on the job at 5am…..need I say more?
July 7th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
I have trouble getting my daughter to stop playing with her hair and makeup and try to get her to focus on gathering the books and papers and supplies she needs for that days schoolwork. It is a constant hassle to get her to focus.

I have a hard time getting up in the morning because I am on the computer til 2:00 a.m. Going to bed early would solve that, but I just can’t tear myself away from the puter. Sometimes I feel like a machine doing the same thing day in and day out.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Yep, I’m the grumpy one. I don’t talk to anyone til I’ve had my coffee…but the kids do get fed!

I have never been a morning person, I hit my snooze alarm alot. I arrive at work just in time.
Sometimes I grab a cup of coffee on the way other times I get a cup at work. But if its my day off I just jump right out of bed and start my day!
July 7th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
My main morning issue is my son is SO crabby and mouthy in the mornings! There’s literally NOTHING I can do to cheer him up or lighten his mood. He has to be up with enough time for him to “mellow out” in front of the tv for about 20-30 minutes while lounging over a breakfast.
If I rush him at all, he squeals and balks.
I’m going to be gray-headed before my time.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
I am a grumpy parent for sure. I have everything ready the night before down to the very last detail. I hate AM drama. I even put cereals or oatmeal in Tupperware so I just add milk or what not.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:36 am
Lay out clothing and make food the night before, makes it easier to get ready
July 8th, 2009 at 1:39 am
Issues in the morning- everyone is grumpy because they don’t want to wake up, everyone wants something different to eat, can’t find clothes they want to wear, dog needs to go out…
July 8th, 2009 at 2:30 am
I do as much as possible the night before — lay out the clothes, pack backpacks, make sure homework’s done, permission slips signed, set the table. Then in the morning all we have to do is get up, get dressed, have a quick nutritious breakfast and go!
July 8th, 2009 at 4:11 am
Alarm goes off at 3:30 am, get out of bed, vitamins, brush teeth, put water in coffee pot, add creamer to coffee cup which already has sweetener from the previous pm prep. Read a Chronological Bible, plus 3 addl devotional books, turn on coffee, situps, pushups, walk 3 miles, put newspapers on porches of neighbors, pour coffee, read morning paper. Not sure how anyone could be grumpy, especially when they’re blessed to be able to get out of their own bed in their own home.
July 8th, 2009 at 4:15 am
The issue I’m having trouble with in my morning routine is that my husband gets up very early, and I could sleep for another hour after he leaves, but I usually am too awake to get back to a good sleep. I wish i could figure out a way to get that extra hour…I’m so tired.
July 8th, 2009 at 4:48 am
My morning routine problem is just getting myself out of bed! Since I lost my job, its hard to be motivated at all, but life does go on and its getting better.

It seems like I am the only one who gets up EARLY to feed the dogs…I have to go outside and pick up after them also, rain or shine (or snow, sleet, hail etc.) And let me tell you, the minute you even move a muscle in the morning, they are all over you to get up and eat!!
July 8th, 2009 at 5:14 am
My biggest issues in the morning would be a lack of time and a lack of motivation to get out of bed, so I have to use little tricks to lure myself “up and at ‘em” most of the time. Also, I don’t have kids of my own, but when I babysit my nieces and nephews, I often use the same techniques for waking up that I use on myself. For example, I set alarms to play our favorite songs to start us off on the right note, entice myself with the smell of coffee from my automatic brewer – and entice them with the smell of their favorite breakfast foods cooking, and have them (and myself) look forward to walking my two dogs in the morning, which we love. I’ve found these techniques work pretty well, even on weekends! Thanks for the giveaway!

The biggest problem we have in the morning is my daughter! She hates getting up early, if it were up to her she would sleep til 10 in the morning. I have to get everything ready the night before or we just dont make it to school on time. Set out breakfast, clothes, bookpacks by the door, and even set the channel on the tv to cartoons so my daughter can wake up a little before she eats. I take her cousin too, and she is a pain in the morning as well lol. She is just plain grumpy. Im also not so awake either, I have a 10 month old that likes to wake up a lot. I do not like the mornings!
July 8th, 2009 at 5:28 am
Instead of complaining, here’s how I made things better. When my kids were still in school, I got as many things as possible ready the night before. I packed lunches, made sure clothes were ready, checked homework, permission slips and schedules. Their bookbags were packed and waiting by the door. I can’t tell you how much easier my mornings were when I did all this.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:38 am
I am not a morning person what so ever. So I try to give myself 5-10 minutes extra “laying” time just to get my eyes open and start waking my brain up before I jump out of bed
July 8th, 2009 at 5:42 am
I no longer have issues in the morning because my kids are grown, but my son always has problems getting up for school so I finally bought him a loud alarm clock that didnt shut off until he got up and turned it off
July 8th, 2009 at 5:45 am
We get up at 6:00 am and have to leave the house by 7:00 am. To do this we must pack lunches, get clothes ready etc. the night before as there is little squiggle room in the mornings. Breakfast can be eaten at school so this helps. The new Capri-Sun Sunrise can help as it is always ready to go! Thanks! senekers@comcast.net
July 8th, 2009 at 5:48 am
The alarm goes off 4:30am. I go to the bathroom and take care of my needs. I then get dressed. ( still in the dark). I am out the house by 5:15am. My goal is to never wake anyone up. I then begin my 1 1/2 hour ride to work traveling through 3 states to meet my 100+ middle school students. That’s when the smile comes on my house.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:55 am
My routine is pretty cut and dried, and much more relaxed since I am retired and have no children of any age in the house. Most days I wake up about 5:30 (leftover from years of having to get up early!), shower, etc. Then, since I have cats and dogs, feed them and usually put a load of wash in the machine. I am not really a breakfast person, but know I have to have something, so I have a light breakfast (instant breakfast with milk, some fruit). Then I can do whatever is necessary for the rest of the day–or even better, do what I want to do!
The biggest thing for those in the midst of hectic mornings/days/whatever, is that times do change as the children grow, and in most cases, you will eventually get to a calmer state.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:00 am
My morning issue is that I spend so many alone. Yep, sounds silly right? When my kids were little I always wished for mornings like this but now that 2 are grown and gone away from home and the other 2 are 16 and 18- I’m lonely, lol. Go figure. We’re a work at night and sleep all day family. Only I just can’t seem to get the hang of sleeping in :S
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

I drink coffee, surf the net and read the paper
July 8th, 2009 at 6:21 am
my biggest issue is getting everyone to eat breakfast!
July 8th, 2009 at 6:23 am
I am grumpy if lawn mowers or barking dogs wake me up early and no food will help.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:27 am
My children are college students now.The best advice I can share is that all three thank me for trying to bring them up to be independent people. You have to let them fail at things to be able to learn to deal with life’s problems. I also taught each of them to do their own laundry, banking and cook for themselves at an early age. By the way, they STILL drink Capri Sun.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:44 am
I’ve been hooked on my hair since I was in my 20’s. I get up 2 hours early for work and shower and do my hair and make up. I have 2 cups of coffee and leave for work. Same ol, same ol Mon- Fri.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:44 am
Our current morning routine is lovely and relaxed, because it’s summer. During the school year is another story. Everyone is running around, trying to get dressed and inhale breakfast. It seems no matter how much I plan the night before the morning is always chaos.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:45 am
Our moring routine is always rough. My 4 yr old hates to get out of bed and is very grumpy once he’s up. I find that a little snuggle time helps him shrug off the frumpiness but, we’re often late. I don’t mind ~ it’s worth it.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:55 am
Well, I have 2 teenage boys and it’s summer. So morning starts about 12 noon. If they have to work then they get up, by themselves, make themselves a lunch. So my morning issues are:
Should I catch up on my blogs or tackle email first.
I am a Canadian resident so if I win can I send this to a dear friend in the states? If not, no worries.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:58 am
I, too, am not a morning person. In fact, I’ve been here at work for 30 minutes already and am still not fully awake. I have 3 screaming mouths to feed every morning, plus 3 dogs to care for before leaving for work. Somehow I muddle through.
I am looking forward to trying the new Capri Sun.
And thank you for the opportunity to win the gc.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:58 am
Well I am all about routine, so usually I don’t have many problems getting off to work on time. I set the coffee to come on just before I get up–VERY IMPORTANT–I also iron my clothes and have my shoes and everything together the night before so I can enjoy my am coffee and surf the net a bit.
July 8th, 2009 at 7:00 am
Be prepared for these busy mornings. Know what you will wear for the day and have it ready. Know what you will eat for breakfast and make sure you have all the ingredients. Know what shampoo and soap you will use and have those in the shower. If you have outdoor plants that need to be watered each morning, fill up the watering cans the night before.
July 8th, 2009 at 7:08 am
I work from home. So I walk into the room whereever I left my laptop, log on and work. My wife wakwes up- makes the coffee and gets the kids out of bed.
July 8th, 2009 at 7:21 am
My morning routine is always really hectic. Its a study in chaos. The best tip I have for making things less chaotic is an egg timer. I use it as a motivating tool especially for showers. If I didn’t regulate it I would pay millions in water bills. So it becomes kind of a game who can get their shower in under the timer.
July 8th, 2009 at 7:35 am
A good morning to me consisgts of waking when I feel like it and having my cat Buster asleep on my feet. After feeling his love, it WILL be a good morning, in fact a good day.

ah, my morning. my 1st alarm goes off at 6 am which lets me know i have another hour of sleep. hehe. my 2nd alarm goes off at 7am telling me to get up! if i accidentally oversleep past that, a 7:30 alarm goes off. I get up, let my dogs out, jump in the shower, get out, wash my face/brush my teeth, put a towel on my head, get dressed, put mousse in my curly hair, then jump in the car. if i’m hungry, i’ll hit a drive-thru. i’m lucky to live only 5 min away from work! i LOVE that.

We’re actually pretty good in the mornings. We prep everything–and I mean everything–the night before. Clothes, socks, underwear, lunches, backpacks, what’s-for-breakfast, etc. There are NO changes allowed in the AM, and the TV goes on when everything necessary is finished. Works pretty well!
July 8th, 2009 at 7:45 am
first thing is coffee!
July 8th, 2009 at 7:54 am
I have to fix breakfast for myself and my boyfriend in the morning, otherwise he won’t eat! If I wake up late he’ll complain he was hungry. I tried showing him once but he was disinterested, pooor baby!
July 8th, 2009 at 7:55 am
I would say my biggest problem is going to be my little guy’s sleep schedule. He is 10 months old, so we don’t have routine yet. Neither one of us has to be anywhere. But he stays up until about 3 am and wakes up around noon. I can see that being a huge problem if it continues for much longer!

My morning routine is all about relaxing and taking care of myself. I fire up the coffee pot and plop down in front of my computer with my dog on my lap and surf the web. It’s important for me to relax before I start my day.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:09 am
I get up at 4 a.m. to get ready for work so I’m really tired and sluggish usually. I try to remember all of my meds and maybe grab something for breakfast that I can eat at work. I check on my son and I’m out the door. It’s pretty peaceful getting ready for work because I am the only one up but I do have to try and not make too much noise, I just wish I could sleep in a little longer.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:11 am
My morning is so hectic. I have a 10 month old daughter and a 10 year old son. I know, what a huge gap. I hit snooze on my alarm clock until the last possible minute. I have to get baby bottles for daycare, feed the baby, change the baby, dress the baby, make sure my son gets up, water the plants, and then do all of my stuff to get ready. My daughter is a dream in the morning, but my son gives me a real hard time. No matter what I do, I never seem to have enough time.

None of us are morning people, so that’s our biggest challenge – just getting out of bed! I am not the most organized person either, but doing as much as possible at night (packing lunches, picking out clothes, deciding what we’ll have for breakfast, etc) really helps.

Last year was pretty easy, everyone had to be at school and work at a different time. This coming September will start the challenge.
Both of my kids moved up, one to jr high, one to high school. So now, they both have to be at the bus stop at the same time…UGH! Both need showers and breakfast and lunchs packed. It will be rough.
Thanks for the great giveaway! I could sooo use this for our summer road trip!!

My morning routine at the moment is relaxed, but that will change when school starts back. Our biggest problem is lack of sleep. We really need to set a better bedtime.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:31 am
On a typical morning, I get up at 5am, work out for an hour. I make my son’s lunch and then jump in the shower. Then I try to write a morning post and do some commenting. After that, anything goes.

I work nights and kids grown… So my mornings are late afternoons… still have issues with dinner prep and getting things done before returning to work in the late evening. Even though its just him and me now and my days and nights are reversed… still find time issues… but a lot more relaxed about it now…
July 8th, 2009 at 8:44 am
My morning issue is that I’m really not a morning person and would rather wake up around noon. I have to have everything ready the night before–clothes laid out, everything I need to take with me in my tote, otherwise I’m in a brain fog and will forget something!
July 8th, 2009 at 8:51 am
My biggest issue is getting enough sleep at night to even wake up in the morning and when I do I have to have lots of coffee and i still cannot get up. I bought a new mattress last year and its too soft. I already have back issues and thought getting a new mattress would help but is does not. I need to buy a firmer one. Anyway i drag myself into the shower and hope i don’t drop the soap!
July 8th, 2009 at 8:55 am
I’ve never been a morning person so my ability to get going depends on the morning java. My son took a little while getting going also, but once he had his breakfast, he was a-okay. Thank you!
July 8th, 2009 at 8:56 am
When my kids were small , I realized the more organized I was, the easier the morning routine fell into place. I made sure picked out their clothes the night before and had them laid out and ready to go. To make me on time , I had my coffee pot programmed, cooking utensils in place to start breakfast and my life organized as well. I also made sure that they went to bed on time so I wouldn’t have little grouches the next morning.

Well, my day begins around 6am…I like to get up before anyone else so that I can have my “moment of silence” for the day…Believe me, that will be IT for the day! I grab a cup o’ java & sit on the porch for about 30 minutes. Then I meander back inside to get a shower…By the time that I finish my shower, other occupants are beginning to stir…Then the chaos begins & it’s every man/woman/child for themselves!!! Look out world! Here we come!
July 8th, 2009 at 9:18 am
When my oldest was little, she was on a schedule and we did our best to stick with it. Routine, routine, routine was the key with her and it worked perfect. Now my little one, well I can see that’s gonna be another story. She’s only 8 months old, but she does not like any type of strict schedule. I’ve tried and tried, so I just go along with the flow and it seems to work for us. Might not be too convenient when she starts school!
July 8th, 2009 at 9:23 am
I no longer have children at home so I don’t have to worry about a morning routine. Actually I have never been a morning person anyway. I hate the alarm clock so I changed my job so I don’t have to be at work until late afternoon. I am able to wake leisurely without the dreaded alarm clock. I can spend time on the computer, have breakfast or wait until lunch, drink coffee or whatever I choose to do.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:43 am
We snarl at each other most mornings. I get up first at 6, wake them. Coffee, pack lunches, write notes, etc… At 6:20 tell them it’s 6:20 to get up. The mini diva gets up and I shove some coffee at her. The littlest growls and turns over. 6:30 tell the littlest to get moving and get snarled at. 6:40 tell her it’s time to move it already and she snaps you KNOW I don’t have to get up til 6:42 what is wrong with you jeeeeeeeeeez mom.
6:42 and 3 seconds. Dev, get up.
Mom, now I am late (yes she has it down to the tenth of a second). Why can’t you ever get me up at 6:42 you are always making me late.
She dashes by slugs down some of my coffee, I get them both juice and vitamins ready and they grab some sort of quickie bite if there is time and race out the door at 6:55 after telling me again how I always make them late.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:43 am
I usually get my clothes ready the night before.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Since it’s summer, the routine is non-existent. During the school year, however, my biggest problem is getting my son to eat his breakfast in time. He is the slowest eater! Also, the baby has a bad habit of dirtying his diaper right when it’s time to go out.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Our morning routine is complicated the most by not being able to find socks and shoes. It doesn’t matter if I have the shoes in their “place” and the socks in the drawers, we still seem to have problems getting them all together. My tip would be: Pick out the socks & shoes the night before and staple them to the front door so that they can’t escape!

We don’t really have any morning issues – my kids are up at dawn and raring to go each day (unless they are sick). My husband wakes up each day first – he doesn’t even need an alarm clock. I am up with the kids if not before and I am fine as long as I get my caffeine LOL. It is a big change from my care free sleeping in on the weekend days before I had kids. I am sure as they get older there will be morning issues but now it is easy as long as we stick to the routine.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:52 am
In the morning, our biggest issue is the bathroom. With a 17 year old girl, a 9 year old boy, and a 6 year old girl, we have a slight issue. They all get up fine, eat, and then head for the bathroom. Problem is getting the two little ones in there in between the teens grooming habits. She normally runs in and starts the shower right as my son is shutting off his alarm clock. So, we get two kids doing the potty dance in the hall waiting for Sis to let them in to pee. Then, when they get done with breakfast, she won’t let them in since she needs the whole counter for her hair dryer, straightener, make-up suitcase (and I’m not kidding about that), brush, comb, hair products, toothbrush….you get the point. Anyway, we’ve had to start a new thing where each of the young ones gets 5 minutes of “alone time” where she can not bug them in the bathroom.
Let’s just say I can’t wait for graduation.

What do I have trouble with in the morning? I guess I’d have to say it’s my cat. She wants attention as soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning. She wants me to watch her eat, and then play with her, and to repeat that process all day long. Unfortunately, I have to go to work, and I get a dirty look from her every day as I leave.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:54 am
my major trouble in the morning (besides getting up myself…) is Grumpy teens! Oh, how I miss the days when they would look at me an smile! lol
July 8th, 2009 at 9:56 am
I don’t have kids so for me the biggest struggle in the morning is getting up in time to have breakfast and not just the horrible coffee at the convenience store. I’ve tried everything from setting my clock ahead to setting three alarms and it seems my body just knows when the very last second to get up is. Breakfast bars and anything I can grab in 3 seconds is my best tip for taming a hectic morning.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:57 am
my kids are older, but i still make sure they are up and getting ready for school or work. take care of the animals and make lunches
July 8th, 2009 at 10:26 am
I try to get clothes and food ready the night before to make getting ready quicker in the morning but sometimes I don’t and I find myself scrambling to get out the door on time.

I have 3 young children and my morning routine generally starts around 4:00 am. I get up before anyone else, even our 2 dogs are still sleeping and I begin my routine with my Yoga poses. I find that when I accomplish this first thing every morning my mind and body gets prepared to handle everything else that is dished my way throughout the day, and there’s usually lots that crosses my path! Once my Yoga is done I walk the dogs. By then they are awake and chomping at the bit to get outside. By the time I come in from that, I have gotten my exercise in for the day and I feel energized and grounded and truly confident. I stagger the wake-up times with our 3 kids. My baby is usually almost always up with me first thing in the morning. Once she is up and fed, cleaned, dressed, etc. I get my middle daughter up, since she needs more individualized attention and help getting dressed and brushing their her teeth, hair, etc and I let my older son get up a little later, and this way when everyone gets to the breakfast table, they are all ready to eat. We even actually manage to get some good morning breakfast conversation in! Thank you so much for letting me share this with you all and for the opportunity to enter.

Since we homeschool, we can sleep a little later in the mornings
I usually get up about 1/2 hour before my daughter and grab a cup of joe to get me started, then I get her up, she showers and gets dressed, gets her breakfast eaten and then we tackle our school work!

My biggest problem with the morning routine is.. .Truthfully… do you want to hear it really… THE COMPUTER… I get up early before anyone else is around… and get on the computer… well it never fails I am in the middle of posting, or tweeting, or entering a giveaway… when someone gets up and wants a glass of juice, or needs me to help with the shower.. AWWW if only I didn’t own a computer.. hehehehe Thanks for the awesome chance.

I get the kids up at 6:30 and they get ready for school. They eat a quick bite and I drop them both off. I usually will have a cup of coffee before I get them off.
I come back and start my day which means I’m at the computer for several hours.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:50 am
I get up quite early around 4:30 am, shower, shave and iron my clothes, watch some news, make my lunch and play with the pets a bit. I beat out the morning traffic and get to work by 6 am.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:53 am
I’m lucky that my teens are now in their teens and pretty much have the morning routine down. They prepare their lunches and breakfast the night before; same thing with their outfits. The only problem now is their waking up. They love to sleep and can sleep through several snoozes
July 8th, 2009 at 11:55 am

My kids are my dogs and they definitely have a hectic morning breakfast routine. The puppy gets up around 5am to be let out. Then all of the dogs are up by 8 and looking for food. Its chaos because the puppy is hyper and one of the adult dogs has a little weight management issue and has to be watched to make sure she doesn’t eat everyone’s breakfast. Its a juggling act especially before morning coffee.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
My doggies are my time constraint in the morning, they want my attention and while getting ready, they beg me with their eyes and bring their toys to me.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
I figure if you stick with the same routine, things always get done on time. If someone is sick…get up earlier, etc. Always have quick breakfast items ready, and lunches packed!
July 8th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
To make the mornings go easier, I always make sure clothes for the next day are out, and breakfast items are ready to serve or be cooked.
Struggles: Sometimes I have a hard time getting my kids to eat a good breakfast, and I think it is really important, so I do what I can to have quick, healthy foods they like. I also sometimes stay up way too late working, housework, sewing, and so on, and if I am very tired, I have a tendency to hit the snooze button a time or two and then really have to rush in the morning! And like you, sometimes someone gets up on the wrong side of the bed, and that can be a struggle.
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!
July 8th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
My kids aren’t in school yet, but to make mornings go more smoothly I always set my 4yo’s clothes out the night before. I also try to have cut up fruit in the fridge so it’s easy to grab with yogurt or cereal for an easy breakfast.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
weekend morning routine: wake up 7:30, get dressed, listen to music, dance & play time. then usually go out.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
We set everything out the night before to make things easier.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
My hours vary when I wake up but start with going to the bathroom, eating a bite after that, putting the tv on and/or going to the computer to check emails, news, etc.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Our morning routine is really just hustling everyone together and trying to put breakfast on the table. Its always really hectic because no one wants to get motivated in the morning. We do a lot of prep work the night before by putting out the clothes, having lunches packed and in the fridge, etc. Otherwise we’d never make it out the door in the morning.
July 8th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Usually in the morning I feel tired and sleepy. I don’t like coffee much, but I found out that drinking green tea (or yerba mate) would help. It has less caffeine than coffee and health benefits, too.

July 8th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
The main issue in the morning is me. My husband and kids know not to approach me until I get that first cup of coffee…lol. Second issue is my youngest son, who like me is grumpy in the morning. My husband and oldest son are early happy morning people.
July 8th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
The toughest thing for me in the morning is getting out of bed, myself, to get things going. I’m way too likely to keep hitting the snooze alarm. I’ve taken to using my travel alarm clock and putting it far enough away from my bed that I have to get out of bed and walk a ways to turn it off. Then I’m far enough out of bed that I can’t just climb back in! Pathetic, huh?

My mornings are easy as hubby is laid off so he is Mr. Mom. I get up at 6 and go to work and hubby gets up with the kids.
July 8th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
I have always been a grump in the morning. Before I had a child, I preferred not to speak to anyone before at least 10am. And with only pets around and a night job, that didn’t seem to be much of a problem. My pets loved me as long as I fed them and gave them a morning pet.
All of that of course changed when I was living with someone else and really changed when we had a child. Years of a little being, having to be fed, changed, loved and talked to before ten in the morning really challenged me to do better.
And then as he got older, and he was grumpy in the morning, didn’t like any sort of breakfast food, had to be pushed every five minutes to get ready for school and get out to the car, as well as driving him to school and getting myself to work pushed me even further in the mornings.
And then again, now that he is the ripe old age of fifteen, I’ve somehow managed to get some of my peace and quiet back. He started going to high school and became more responsible, he gets his bagel out of the freezer at night and puts it in the fridge to thaw for the morning, and then has a bagel and cream cheese with juice for breakfast. After all of the years of fighting about breakfast, it’s about time.
He and his dad ride together to school now and I get to sleep in later on my days off, and once again, on those peaceful quiet days, I don’t talk to anyone until after ten. Just give the pets a oat and make sure that they eat, and they’re good to go.

We have two sons; a toddler and an 8-week old. Our toddler sometimes likes to get up very early, while our newborn likes to stay awake all throughout the night. Often, I will get up with our toddler and let my wife sleep till it is time for me to go to work. After work, I will sometimes take a nap. But usually I try to stay up until our oldest son goes to bed.
On our best days, our morning consists of waking before our toddler and getting some caffeine. Then we get to spend time as a family, eating breakfast and talking about current events (or whatever) before I go to work..well actually our best mornings are on my days off. Me and my wife take turns taking morning naps after a hectic night before spending time as a family.
I look forward to our newborn sleeping throughout the night, because I miss seeing my family all at the same time (on a regular basis). Sleeping should not be part of a morning routine, but sometimes we can’t help it.

Morning? It’s morning, that’s my issue with it. I am not a morning person. That said, my best strategy is to not hit the snooze button, go on and get up but move at my own pace, no rushing. I allow enough time to drink a cup of coffee at the computer while I check email. This allows me some wake up transition time and starts me off in a better mood. I have no problem here with packaged juices and packaged muffins and packaged yogurts as long as they are HEALTHY packaged products.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Depends on the morning… Wee Man wakes up EARLY.. So I have to have everything ready to go plus be awake BEFORE he tries to beat the bedroom door down to let me know he is up.. This means I sleep light so at the first sound I am up and dressed and out the door to get breakfast started… All this just so I can keep the baby from waking up… Thus, I plan breakfast the night before… get his clothes ready.. make sure before bed the tv volume is turned down to almost nothing.. make sure as SOON as I get out the bedroom door that I turn the AC on to make noise and mask the sounds of Wee Man getting ready… and all that is just the TIP of the ice..

My daughter is not a morning person. She flops around like a rag doll and makes it sooo difficult to get her ready. I sure wish my husband would wake up earlier to help!
July 8th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
My constraint is definately time. I leave for work early, so the kids and I cross paths for about 30 minutes before I have to leave. Our morning routine works because it is a routine, the kids know what needs to be done and what order to do it in, even if I have already left for work. We also try to address changes in the schedule the night before, so there are no snags in the morning.
